Starting a stream is mostly about knowing what to buy first. My rule is simple: sound first, then light, then camera. Viewers forgive a soft picture, but they won’t sit through a muffled mic. So this guide builds one beginner kit in that order. The five core pieces (#1–#5), plus a Stream Deck Neo, fit a budget of about £200 when we checked in October 2026. Amazon prices change all the time, so add up today’s prices with the buttons before you buy. (Here’s how we choose products.)

  • Sound: FIFINE T669 mic kit with arm (#1)
  • Light: NEEWER BASICS BR60 clip-on ring light (#2)

Step 1 – sound

1. FIFINE T669 USB Condenser Microphone Kit

by FIFINE

Who it’s for: Beginners who want a proper desk mic and a boom arm without buying them separately and checking they fit together.

Verdict: The cheapest way to sort out sound and placement in one go. You get a USB condenser mic plus the scissor boom arm, desk clamp, shock mount, pop filter and foam cover, so the mic can sit close to your mouth from day one. That matters more than the mic itself. It’s plug-and-play on Windows, Mac and PS4/PS5, and the volume knob on the mic doubles as a quick way to turn yourself down. If you’d rather choose the mic and arm separately, see our streaming mic and mic arm guides.

What we like

  • Mic, boom arm, desk clamp, shock mount, pop filter and foam cover in one box
  • USB plug-and-play – no audio interface or phantom power needed
  • Listing says it works with PS4/PS5 as well as Windows and Mac
  • Long 8.2ft USB cable, so you can route it along the arm

Worth knowing

  • Not compatible with Xbox (per the listing)
  • No headphone jack or dedicated mute button – the knob controls volume
  • Sold by FIFINE’s own store rather than Amazon (dispatched by Amazon)

Step 2 – light

2. NEEWER BASICS BR60 5" Clip-on Ring Light

by NEEWER

Who it’s for: Anyone streaming from a dim bedroom who needs their face lit evenly, and doesn’t have space for a big light.

Verdict: A cheap light does more for your picture than an expensive webcam. The BR60 clips onto the top of a monitor or laptop up to 2.5cm thick, or sits on the mini tripod in the box, and runs off a USB port. You can switch between warm and cool white and dim it in ten steps. It’s small, so think of it as a starter light. The panel lights at #7 and #9 are the upgrade.

What we like

  • Clips onto a monitor or laptop, or stands on the included mini tripod
  • Warm to cool white (3000K–6000K) and 10-step dimming
  • USB powered, so no plug socket needed
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Small 5-inch light – fine at arm’s length, not for lighting a room
  • Clip only fits screens up to about 2.5cm thick

Step 3 – camera

3. Logitech Brio 100 Full HD Webcam

by Logitech

Who it’s for: First-time streamers who want a reliable 1080p camera from a brand they know, without paying for 60fps or 4K.

Verdict: Once your sound and light are sorted, a basic 1080p webcam looks surprisingly good. The Brio 100 is Logitech’s simple plug-in option: Full HD at 30fps, automatic light balancing, a built-in mic for calls, and a slide-across privacy shutter for when you’re offline. It’s a solid start. If you want smoother 60fps or more resolution, our webcams for streaming guide covers those.

What we like

  • Full HD 1080p at 30fps (Logitech spec)
  • RightLight auto light balance helps in a dim room
  • Built-in privacy shutter
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • 30fps, not 60fps
  • Fixed focus and a fairly narrow 58.9° view – fine for a face cam, not for showing a whole room
  • Needs a USB-A port

Hear your game and chat

4. Turtle Beach Recon 50 Wired Gaming Headset

by Turtle Beach

Who it’s for: Anyone streaming with speakers on, which leaks game audio into the mic. Headphones fix that.

Verdict: If you play through speakers, your mic picks the game up, and viewers hear it twice. A cheap wired headset fixes that. The Recon 50 is light, with in-line volume and mic mute, and plugs into a PS5 or Xbox controller or a PC with a 3.5mm jack. You’ll use the T669 as your stream mic, so the Recon’s removable boom mic is a handy backup for party chat.

What we like

  • Lightweight, for long streams
  • In-line master volume and mic mute
  • Works with PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC and mobile over 3.5mm
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Basic stereo sound – it’s a starter headset
  • Single 3.5mm plug: a PC with separate mic and headphone sockets may need a splitter

For PS5 and Switch 2 streamers

5. UGREEN Video Capture Card HDMI to USB-C 1080P 60FPS

by UGREEN

Who it’s for: Console players who want to stream through OBS on a laptop or PC, with their webcam and overlays. You don’t need it if you stream PC games.

Verdict: A capture card takes your console’s HDMI feed into your computer, so you can stream it in OBS with your camera, alerts and overlays. This small UGREEN dongle records at 1080p60, accepts a 4K signal from the console, and has both USB-C and USB-A plugs, with no drivers to install. It’s the budget way to stream a Switch 2. PS5 owners can go live straight from the console, but a capture card gets you the full OBS setup. Skip this one if you only stream PC games.

What we like

  • 1080p at 60fps capture, from a 4K input
  • Plug-and-play with OBS and Streamlabs, no drivers
  • USB-C and USB-A plugs, so it fits most laptops
  • Sold by UGREEN’s UK company, dispatched by Amazon

Worth knowing

  • The listing doesn’t mention an HDMI pass-through port, so you’ll need to plan how you watch the game while you play
  • Only needed for console streaming
  • PS5: you’ll need to switch off HDCP in the console’s HDMI settings to capture games

Upgrade – stream controls

6. Elgato Stream Deck Neo (Black, 8 keys)

by Elgato

Who it’s for: Streamers who keep fumbling for OBS hotkeys mid-game. It’s a nice-to-have, not a must-have.

Verdict: Once you’re streaming regularly, a Stream Deck is the upgrade that makes you feel in control. Each of the eight keys can switch a scene, mute your mic, start a clip or play a sound. You set them up by dragging and dropping in Elgato’s free app. Add it to the core kit and you were still at about £200 when we checked.

What we like

  • Eight keys you can set to scenes, mute, clips or sounds
  • Drag-and-drop setup in the free Stream Deck app
  • Also controls smart lights, Spotify and other apps
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • A luxury: free OBS hotkeys do the same job
  • Needs a computer – it doesn’t control a console on its own

Upgrade – brighter light

7. NEEWER NL-116AI 9" LED Video Light Panel with Desk Tripod

by NEEWER

Who it’s for: Streamers who’ve outgrown the clip-on ring light and want a softer, brighter light off to one side.

Verdict: The natural next step from the BR60. It’s a 9-inch panel with knobs for brightness and colour temperature in 1% steps, a metal desk tripod, and a built-in battery, so you can also take it off the desk. Put it at 45 degrees to your face and keep the BR60 as a fill light, and you’ve got a two-light setup.

What we like

  • Bigger 9-inch panel with 116 LEDs
  • Brightness and colour temperature in 1% steps
  • Built-in battery, plus USB-C charging
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Battery only lasts about 1.5 hours at a time (per the listing), so keep it plugged in for long streams
  • Takes up more desk space than a clip-on light

Upgrade – comfier headset

8. HyperX Cloud III Wired Gaming Headset

by HyperX

Who it’s for: Streamers doing long sessions who want a headset that’s still comfortable at hour four.

Verdict: If the Recon 50 starts to feel basic, the Cloud III is the comfort upgrade. It has memory-foam cushions, a metal frame, bigger 53mm drivers and a noise-cancelling mic with a mute light. It also connects by USB-C, USB-A or 3.5mm, so it works across PC and consoles.

What we like

  • Memory foam headband and ear cushions
  • USB-C, USB-A and 3.5mm connections
  • Mic mute LED, so you know when you’re muted
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Heavier than the Recon 50 (308g vs 154g, per the listings)
  • Overkill if you only use it to hear your game

Upgrade – streamer-brand light

9. Elgato Key Light Neo with Monitor Mount

by Elgato

Who it’s for: Streamers who want a light that clips neatly on the monitor and can be adjusted from their computer or Stream Deck.

Verdict: Elgato’s monitor-mounted light is the tidy upgrade if you’ve added a Stream Deck: it’s edge-lit to cut glare, adjusts brightness and colour temperature, and the listing says it goes up to 1000 lumens with an external USB power supply. It’s the most expensive item here, so it’s one to save for.

What we like

  • Sits on top of a monitor or laptop screen
  • Edge-lit panel for softer, less glaring light
  • Up to 1000 lumens with an external USB power supply (per the listing)
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Needs an external USB power supply for full brightness

From the Amazon UK listings and Logitech’s spec page, checked from a UK address on 6 October 2026. #1–#5 plus #6 fit a budget of about £200 at the prices we saw. Check today’s prices before you buy.

Set it up in this order

  1. Mic on the arm, close to your mouth. Roughly a hand’s width away and slightly off to the side. This one step does more for your sound than spending twice as much on a mic.
  2. Light in front of you, not behind. Clip the BR60 on top of your monitor, or put it on its tripod just above eye level. A window behind you will turn you into a silhouette.
  3. Camera at eye level. On top of the monitor, with the light just above or beside it.
  4. Headphones on, speakers off. Otherwise the mic picks up your game and viewers hear an echo.
  5. Free software. OBS Studio and Streamlabs are both free. Add your mic, camera and game (or capture card) as sources, and do a test recording before your first stream.

Streaming from a PS5 or Switch 2

  • PS5: you can go live to Twitch or YouTube straight from the console. Plug the T669 mic into a USB port and the Recon 50 into the controller. For overlays, alerts and your webcam, run the console through the capture card (#5) into OBS on a PC, and switch off HDCP in the PS5’s HDMI settings first.
  • Switch 2: use the capture card (#5) between the dock and your PC or laptop, then stream from OBS.
  • Xbox: the T669 mic isn’t Xbox compatible (per the listing). Xbox streamers should use the capture card route with the mic plugged into the PC.

Which one should you get?

  • Streaming PC games on a tight budget: #1, #2, #3 and #4. You don’t need the capture card.
  • Streaming from a PS5 or Switch 2: #1, #4 and #5 first, then the light and camera.
  • Not ready to show your face: #1 and #4. A good mic and a headset are a perfectly good first stream.
  • Already streaming and want an upgrade: the Stream Deck Neo (#6) if you’re fumbling hotkeys, or the NL-116AI (#7) if your camera looks grainy.

What we left out and why

  • The top picks from our other streaming guides: the FIFINE K669B mic, Aokeo AK-35 arm and Elgato Facecam Neo are all great, but they already lead our mic, mic arm and webcam guides. Mix and match from those if you’d rather.
  • FIFINE A6T kit: a good mic-and-arm bundle, but it’s essentially the A6V mic from our mic guide with an arm added, so we went for a different kit.
  • Elgato HD60 X capture card: a great upgrade, but when we checked it was sold by a third-party seller, not Amazon, and it would eat most of the £200 budget on its own.
  • “All-in-one streaming bundles” from unknown brands: we’d rather pick each piece on its own merits.
  • Green screens and second monitors: nice to have, but not what a first stream needs.

Prices change all the time. We don’t show prices on What2Buy – use the “Check price on Amazon” buttons for the current price.

FAQ

What do I actually need to start streaming?

A computer or console you already own, plus a decent mic. After that, add a light, then a webcam, then a headset so your mic doesn’t pick up game sound. A PS5 can go live straight to Twitch or YouTube on its own; a capture card (#5) lets you stream a console through OBS on a PC with overlays and a camera.

Can you really build a streaming setup for £200?

Yes. The five core picks here (#1–#5), plus the Stream Deck Neo (#6), came to about £200 on Amazon UK when we checked in October 2026. Prices move, so add up today’s prices before you buy. Streaming PC games? You can skip the capture card and put the money towards the panel light (#7).

Do I need a webcam to stream?

No. Lots of streamers start with just a mic and game audio. A face cam helps viewers connect with you, but if money’s tight, get the mic and headset first and add the camera later.

What's the best streaming starter kit for PS5?

Mic (#1), headset (#4) and, if you want overlays and a camera via OBS, the capture card (#5). The T669 mic and the Recon 50 both work with a PS5, per their listings. To capture PS5 games through a card, switch off HDCP in the console’s HDMI settings first.

Why do you link to other guides instead of listing every mic and webcam?

This page is the kit. Our streaming mics, mic arms and webcams guides each compare ten options, if you’d rather swap one piece of the kit for something else.
