A dock turns one USB-C cable into monitors, Ethernet, USB ports and charging, so your laptop goes from bag to full desk setup in a second. Before you buy, check two things: your laptop’s USB-C port (it needs to support video out – Thunderbolt and USB4 ports do) and, if you use a MacBook, whether the dock can show different things on two screens. Several cheaper docks only mirror on macOS, and I’ve flagged them. (Here’s how we choose products.)

FAQ

Will a USB-C dock work with my laptop?

Only if your laptop’s USB-C port supports video out (DisplayPort Alt Mode, USB4 or Thunderbolt). Check your laptop’s spec page before buying.

Can I use two different screens on a MacBook with a dock?

It depends on the dock and the Mac. The UGREEN 7-in-1 (#5) and 10-in-1 (#1) listings say both monitors mirror on macOS. The UGREEN Thunderbolt 4 dock (#3) is made for MacBooks – also check how many external displays your MacBook supports.

Do docking stations charge the laptop?

All six pass power through. The Anker Prime (#2) and UGREEN Thunderbolt 4 (#3) have their own power; the others need your laptop’s USB-C charger plugged into the dock.
