If you spend your day at a desk, and then your evening gaming or streaming at the same desk, the chair is the bit of kit you use the most. You don’t need to spend Secretlab money to get a good one, though. Under £200 there are chairs with proper adjustable lumbar support, 3D or 4D armrests and long warranties. I’ve compared them all on the same six things, so you can see at a glance which one fits you. (Here’s how we choose products.)

Best all-rounder

1. SIHOO M18 Ergonomic Office Chair

by SIHOO

Who it’s for: Anyone who wants a proper adjustable mesh chair from a known brand and doesn’t want to overthink it.

Verdict: The M18 is the safe pick, and we mean that as a compliment. You get an adjustable headrest, adjustable back support, recline and height-adjustable arms, a breathable mesh back and a W-shaped seat with a waterfall front edge to take pressure off your legs. It’s rated for 150kg and SIHOO backs it with a 3-year parts warranty. For most people, this is our pick.

What we like

  • Five adjustments: back support, headrest, seat height, recline and arm height (per the listing)
  • Rated for 150kg, with BIFMA testing claimed on the listing
  • 3-year warranty with free replacement parts
  • Mesh back for airflow on long sessions

Worth knowing

  • Arms only go up and down, not forwards, back or sideways like 3D or 4D arms
  • No seat-depth adjustment

Best for bigger builds

2. SIHOO M102C Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair, 3D Armrests

by SIHOO

Who it’s for: Bigger or taller people who find standard chair seats a bit narrow, and anyone who wants arms that flip up out of the way.

Verdict: The M102C has a broader, roomier seat than most chairs here, and SIHOO pitches it at bigger and taller users. The lumbar pad is separate from the back and moves 6cm up and down, so you can put it where your back actually needs it. The armrests are the other highlight: they slide back and forth, pivot, and flip up so the chair tucks under the desk. It also comes with the same 3-year SIHOO warranty as the M18.

What we like

  • Separately adjustable mesh lumbar with 6cm of vertical travel
  • Arms move forwards and back, pivot and flip up
  • Wider seat, rated for 136kg
  • TÜV and BIFMA claims on the listing, plus a 3-year warranty

Worth knowing

  • The listing doesn’t mention a recline or tilt lock
  • 136kg limit is a bit lower than the M18’s 150kg

Longest warranty

3. HOLLUDLE Ergonomic Office Chair with 3D Lumbar Support (V-back)

by HOLLUDLE

Who it’s for: Fiddlers who like to dial a chair in exactly, and anyone who wants the longest warranty on this list.

Verdict: On paper this is the most adjustable chair here. The lumbar moves up, down, forwards, back and rotates, the headrest goes up and down and rotates, the arms adjust three ways and there’s a 3-level tilt lock. It also has a 5-year warranty, the longest of any chair on this list, and it claims BIFMA and EN1335 certification. The silver V-shaped back looks smarter than the usual all-black office chair, too.

What we like

  • 3D lumbar, 2D headrest and 3D armrests
  • 5-year warranty – the longest of our picks
  • BIFMA and EN1335 certification claimed on the listing
  • All tools included, with 20–30 minutes’ assembly quoted

Worth knowing

  • The listing doesn’t state a maximum user weight, so ask the seller if that matters to you
  • No seat-depth adjustment

Best for seat-depth adjustment

4. ProtoArc Flexer Ergonomic Office Chair with Sliding Seat Depth

by ProtoArc

Who it’s for: Anyone whose legs are longer or shorter than average, since seat depth is the adjustment most cheap chairs skip.

Verdict: Seat-depth adjustment is the feature you usually only find on pricier chairs, and it’s why the Flexer is here. Sliding the seat forwards or back means you can support your thighs properly while leaving a gap behind your knees, whatever your leg length. It adds 4D armrests and a tilt that adapts to your weight, with a 4-position lock. It’s a newer chair than the SIHOOs, but it covers the adjustments that matter.

What we like

  • Sliding seat depth – rare under £200
  • 4D armrests
  • Weight-adaptive tilt with a 4-position lock (per the listing)
  • Labelled hardware and spare fixings for easier assembly

Worth knowing

  • No headrest mentioned on the listing
  • No warranty length given on the listing

Solid mid-budget mesh chair

5. Keratee Ergonomic Office Chair with Adjustable Lumbar Support (136kg)

by Keratee

Who it’s for: Home workers and students who want a comfy mesh chair with the basics covered, without paying for 3D everything.

Verdict: A no-nonsense mesh chair that covers the essentials well. You get adjustable lumbar support, height adjustment, adjustable arms that flip up, a padded seat and a rocking tilt for when you lean back between tasks. It’s rated for 136kg, which is a higher limit than most chairs at this level. It’s a good fit for a home office or a gaming desk that doesn’t get all-day use.

What we like

  • Adjustable lumbar and adjustable flip-up arms
  • Rated for 136kg
  • Breathable mesh back with a padded seat
  • Rocking tilt for leaning back

Best adjustable lumbar for less

6. Durrafy Ergonomic Office Chair with 4D Lumbar Support

by Durrafy

Who it’s for: Anyone who mainly wants lumbar support they can actually move, without paying for a premium chair.

Verdict: The lumbar support is the reason to buy this one. The padded cushion moves 8cm up and down and 3cm forwards and back, which is more lumbar adjustment than you’d expect at this level. The arms fold up through 90° so the chair slides under the desk, the back and seat are both mesh, and the backrest rocks and can lock upright. It’s a really good pick if you like lots of lower-back support.

What we like

  • Lumbar cushion moves 8cm vertically and 3cm forwards and back
  • 90° folding arms to tuck under the desk
  • Mesh back and seat for airflow, with a 7cm seat cushion
  • Tools included, with 15–20 minutes’ assembly quoted

Worth knowing

  • The listing gives two different weight limits (150kg and 120kg), so check with the seller if you’re near either

Easy to assemble

7. naspaluro Ergonomic Office Chair with 90° Flip-up Armrests

by naspaluro

Who it’s for: Anyone setting up a desk in a bedroom or small home office who wants a chair they can build in minutes and tuck away.

Verdict: A simple, comfy chair that’s very easy to live with. The padded arms flip up so it slides right under the desk, the curved mesh back has a rocking mode, and the seat is one solid piece of high-density foam. The listing says it builds without extra tools in about 15 minutes, and it’s rated for 150kg, which matches the highest limit on this list.

What we like

  • Padded arms flip up 90° to save space
  • Rated for 150kg
  • No extra tools needed for assembly, about 15 minutes per the listing
  • Grade 2 gas lift certified by SGS (per the listing)

Best simple chair with a headrest

8. SONGMICS Office Chair with Headrest, Ergonomic Mesh (OBN037)

by SONGMICS

Who it’s for: Anyone who wants neck support for leaning back on calls or between games, on a simpler chair.

Verdict: Headrests are usually the first thing to go on simpler chairs, so this is a nice find. You get an adjustable headrest and an adjustable lumbar pad on an S-shaped mesh back, an 8cm-thick seat cushion and flip-up arms. The tilt is limited to 90–105°, so it’s more for sitting upright than reclining, but it covers the basics well.

What we like

  • Adjustable headrest and lumbar pad
  • 8cm high-density seat cushion
  • Flip-up arms for tucking under the desk
  • Sold by Amazon

Worth knowing

  • Only 90–105° of tilt

9. SONGMICS Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair with Rocking Function (OBN042)

by SONGMICS

Who it’s for: Students, spare-room offices and anyone who runs warm and wants mesh on the seat as well as the back.

Verdict: A good basic chair for people who get hot. Both the seat and back are mesh, there’s a thickened lumbar section, the arms flip up and the back rocks from 90° to 115°. It’s rated for 120kg, and SONGMICS gives it a 2-year warranty, which is more than most basic chairs list.

What we like

  • Mesh seat and back
  • 90–115° rocking
  • 2-year manufacturer warranty (per the listing)
  • Numbered parts for quick assembly

Simple no-frills pick

10. Yaheetech Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair

by Yaheetech

Who it’s for: Anyone who needs a decent chair for a few hours here and there, rather than all-day work.

Verdict: This is the simple option. It’s a mid-back mesh chair with built-in lumbar support, a high-density foam seat, a 45–54cm height range and fixed arms. It doesn’t have the adjustments of the chairs above, but it’s rated for 136kg and it’s a sensible choice for a student room, a guest desk or a second chair.

What we like

  • Built-in lumbar support on a curved mesh back
  • Rated for 136kg
  • 28D high-density foam seat (per the listing)

Worth knowing

How to set up your chair for long sessions

  1. Seat height first. Feet flat on the floor, knees roughly level with your hips.
  2. Then the arms. Set them so your elbows rest at about desk height with your shoulders relaxed.
  3. Then the lumbar. Move it until it sits in the curve of your lower back. It should feel supportive, not like it’s pushing you forward.
  4. Then your screen. The top of the screen should be at about eye level. If your monitor stand won’t go high enough, a monitor arm fixes that.

What we left out and why

  • SIHOO M57: a popular chair, but it’s only under £200 when it’s on a deal. Its normal price is above the cap, so it didn’t fit this list.
  • FlexiSpot BS8 and BS8 Pro: over £200 on Amazon UK when we checked on 6 October, and one BS8 Pro listing was unavailable.
  • FlexiSpot C3: sold direct by FlexiSpot, with no Amazon UK listing we could link to.
  • Secretlab and Elgato Embrace: both well over £200.

Sharing a desk with your streaming gear

If you stream from the same desk, flip-up or folding arms (#2, #5, #6, #7, #8 and #9) make it easier to get close to the mic and keyboard. Check where your mic arm clamps before you choose: our best mic arms under £50 list gives the clamp range for each one.

FAQ

Is £200 enough for a good office chair?

Yes. Under £200 you can get adjustable lumbar support, 3D or 4D armrests, a headrest and a 3- to 5-year warranty, as with the SIHOO M18 (#1), SIHOO M102C (#2) and HOLLUDLE (#3). What you mostly give up is premium materials and the very finest adjustment.

Mesh or padded – which is better for long hours?

It’s mostly personal. Mesh backs let air through, which helps if you run warm or sit under streaming lights. Padded seats feel softer at first. Most chairs here mix a mesh back with a foam seat. The SONGMICS OBN042 (#9) and Durrafy (#6) are mesh all over.

What does 3D or 4D armrest mean?

It’s the number of ways the arms move. 1D arms go up and down. 3D adds forwards and back plus pivoting. 4D usually adds side-to-side as well. More adjustment helps you get your elbows at desk height, which matters if you game or type for hours.

Do I need seat-depth adjustment?

If you’re quite tall or quite short, it’s worth having. The seat should support most of your thigh but leave a gap of a few fingers behind your knee. The ProtoArc Flexer (#4) is the only chair here with a sliding seat.

Is a gaming chair better than an office chair?

Not necessarily. Most gaming chairs use fixed bucket seats and pillows, while a good office chair gives you adjustable lumbar, arms and seat. For long sessions, an adjustable office chair is usually the more comfortable choice.

How much weight can these chairs take?

It varies from 120kg to 150kg among the picks that list it. The SIHOO M18 (#1) and naspaluro (#7) are rated for 150kg. The HOLLUDLE (#3) doesn’t state a limit, and the Durrafy (#6) lists two different figures, so check with the seller.
