Black Friday gaming: what's worth buying (UK)

Seven PS5 and PC upgrades worth buying at their normal price, so anything off on Black Friday is a bonus, not the reason.

This isn’t a list of live deals. I’ve picked the PS5 and PC gear that’s worth buying at its normal price, so if it does drop on Black Friday, that’s a bonus rather than the reason. Each pick says who it suits and what to check on the listing first. Use the buttons to check today’s price on Amazon. (Here’s how we choose products.)

Best pro-style pad

1. PlayStation DualSense Edge Wireless Controller

by PlayStation

Who it’s for: PS5 players who take ranked or competitive modes seriously and want to remap buttons and switch control profiles on the fly.

Verdict: Sony’s own pro controller, so there’s no compatibility guesswork. The listing highlights customisable controls and swappable profiles. It’s a big step up from the standard pad, so it suits someone who’ll actually use the extra controls.

What we like

  • Sony’s own pro controller for PS5
  • Customisable controls and switchable profiles (listing)

Worth knowing

  • Sold by a third party (TTW Electronics) when we checked
  • Battery life isn’t in the listing bullets, so check Sony’s page if that matters to you
  • Overkill for casual players: the standard DualSense (#2) does the basics

Best second pad

2. PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller – White

by PlayStation

Who it’s for: Anyone who needs a second controller for co-op, or a spare for when the first one’s charging.

Verdict: The official pad, with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in mic and the Create button, per the listing. The catch when we checked: this white listing was sold by a third party with only a few in stock, so check the seller before you buy.

What we like

  • The official PS5 controller
  • Haptics and adaptive triggers work in supported games

Worth knowing

  • Third-party seller (THE TECH GROUP) with low stock when we checked
  • Watch for ‘Renewed’ listings in search results if you want new

Best cheap add-on

3. Razer Universal Quick Charging Stand for PS5 DualSense

Who it’s for: Anyone tired of a flat controller or a USB cable trailing across the floor.

Verdict: A small, useful add-on: drop the pad in and the listing says it’s fully charged in under three hours, with overcharge protection. It’s USB powered, so you’ll need a free port or plug.

What we like

  • Full charge in under 3 hours (listing)
  • Overcharge protection (listing)

Best when the TV's taken

4. PlayStation Portal Remote Player – Midnight Black

by PlayStation

Who it’s for: PS5 owners who lose the TV to the rest of the house and want to keep playing in another room.

Verdict: It streams games from your PS5 over your home Wi-Fi, with DualSense-style haptics and adaptive triggers in supported games, per the listing. It’s not a standalone console, so it only makes sense if you already own a PS5 and have decent Wi-Fi. It’s also in our gifts for PS5 owners.

What we like

  • Plays games installed on your PS5 without the TV
  • Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in supported games (listing)
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Needs a PS5 and a good home Wi-Fi connection
  • Not a standalone handheld

Who it’s for: PC players who mostly play shooters and want a light, simple esports-shaped mouse with long battery life.

Verdict: It’s the top pick in our best wireless gaming mice guide: Focus Pro 30K sensor, Gen-2 mechanical switches and up to 280 hours of battery, per the listing. There’s no RGB, which most FPS players won’t miss.

What we like

  • Up to 280 h battery (listing)
  • Esports shape, mechanical switches
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Best budget headset

6. Turtle Beach Atlas 200 Wired Gaming Headset

by Turtle Beach

Who it’s for: PS5 or PC players who want a light, wired headset that’s comfortable with glasses.

Verdict: Our top pick in the best PS5 headsets under £50 guide (that guide links the white version; this is the black). The listing lists 50 mm drivers, tuning for Sony’s Tempest 3D audio, a flip-to-mute mic and glasses-friendly cushions. It’s wired, which is simpler but less tidy.

What we like

  • Light, at around 280 g (listing)
  • Flip-to-mute mic and glasses-friendly cushions

Worth knowing

  • Wired only
  • Black version sold by a third party (Aryan) when we checked

Buying guide

Check before you buy

Before buying… What to check Source
a PS5 SSD PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 NVMe, 5,500 MB/s or faster recommended, cooling within 11.25 mm total thickness; the PS5 doesn’t support HMB PlayStation support
a DualSense the colour or edition on the listing, and that it isn’t a “Renewed” listing unless you want one Amazon UK search, 12 Oct
a PlayStation Portal you need a PS5 and decent home Wi-Fi listing
anything who sells it. Look for “sold from abroad” or an overseas seller on the listing our UK check, 12 Oct

Which one should you get?

  • Competitive PS5 player: DualSense Edge (#1).
  • Need a second pad: DualSense (#2), plus the Razer stand (#3) to keep both charged.
  • Someone else always has the TV: PlayStation Portal (#4).
  • PC shooter player: Razer Viper V3 HyperSpeed (#5). More options in our wireless gaming mice guide.
  • Budget headset: Turtle Beach Atlas 200 (#6), or see our PS5 headsets under £50.
  • Streaming a console: Elgato 4K S (#7).
  • Switch 2 owner: our Switch 2 accessories under £20.

What we left out and why

  • Samsung 990 PRO with Heatsink 2TB: a great PS5 drive on paper, but when we checked it was sold by a third party with low stock, rather than Amazon or Samsung. We’ll add it back if Amazon or Samsung sells it.
  • Crucial T500 with Heatsink 1TB: the buy box was “Amazon US” when we checked, i.e. an import. We don’t link imports.
  • Corsair MP600 PRO LPX: the listing said it was sold from abroad.
  • DualSense limited editions and unbranded Portal accessory bundles: only seen in search, not checked properly.

Prices change all the time. We don’t show prices on What2Buy – use the “Check price on Amazon” buttons for the current price.

FAQ

Is Black Friday a good time to buy a PS5 SSD?

It can be, but check the spec before the price. Sony asks for a PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 NVMe drive, recommends 5,500 MB/s or faster, and says it needs a heatsink or other cooling within an 11.25 mm thickness limit (PlayStation support). We left SSDs off this page because the two we shortlisted failed our UK seller check (see below).

DualSense or DualSense Edge?

The standard DualSense (#2) is all most people need. The Edge (#1) adds customisable controls and swappable profiles, which suits competitive players who’ll actually use them.

When is Amazon's Black Friday in 2026?

Amazon hadn’t announced its 2026 dates when we wrote this. In 2025 its Black Friday Week ran from 20 November to 1 December, according to Amazon. Black Friday itself is Friday 27 November 2026.
