A PS5 doesn’t come with a headset, but a perfectly decent one doesn’t cost much: almost every wired gaming headset plugs into the 3.5mm jack on the DualSense controller and gives you game audio and party chat with no setup. Every headset here was under £50 on Amazon UK at its normal price when we checked (October 2026), and every listing says it works with a PS5. Prices move, so use the buttons to check today’s. (Here’s how we choose products.)

1. Turtle Beach Atlas 200 Wired Gaming Headset (White, PlayStation Licensed)

by Turtle Beach

Who it’s for: PS5 players who want the most headset for the money, including anyone who games in glasses.

Verdict: This is the step up from the usual budget headsets. It has bigger 50mm drivers than most picks here, a mic that mutes when you flip it up, and Turtle Beach’s ProSpecs ear cushions, which are designed to ease pressure on glasses arms. The listing says it’s optimised for the PS5’s Tempest 3D audio, and it’s officially PlayStation licensed. It’s the priciest pick on the page, though, sitting right at our £50 limit, so check the price before you buy. There’s also a black version sold as an Xbox model that still lists PS5 compatibility.

What we like

  • 50mm drivers, bigger than most budget headsets
  • Flip-to-mute mic, so muting is one movement
  • ProSpecs dual-foam cushions are glasses-friendly (per the listing)
  • Officially PlayStation licensed and sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Right at the top of a £50 budget
  • Mic isn’t detachable

2. Turtle Beach Recon 70 Wired Gaming Headset (PlayStation, Black)

by Turtle Beach

Who it’s for: Anyone who wants a no-fuss PS5 headset from a big brand and would rather spend the change on a game.

Verdict: The Recon 70 is the sensible buy. You get a flip-to-mute mic, synthetic-leather ear cushions and 40mm speakers, and it works on PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC and phones with a 3.5mm jack. It doesn’t have the bigger drivers or glasses-friendly cushions of the Atlas 200, but it costs a lot less. It was also the top seller in Amazon UK’s PS5 headsets chart when we checked on 6 October.

What we like

  • Flip-to-mute mic
  • Leatherette cushions for better noise isolation (per the listing)
  • Works with PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC and mobile over 3.5mm
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Smaller 40mm speakers than the Atlas 200
  • Mic isn’t detachable

Lightest big-brand pick

3. Logitech G335 Wired Gaming Headset

by Logitech G

Who it’s for: Players who find heavy headsets tiring, and households with a PS5 and a Switch 2 sharing one headset.

Verdict: At 240g, the G335 is one of the lightest headsets here, and its stretchy suspension headband spreads that weight across your head. The volume roller sits on the ear cup, the mic flips out of the way, and Logitech lists PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch/Switch 2 compatibility over 3.5mm. It’s also Discord Certified. It’s a good pick if the headset will hop between consoles.

What we like

  • 240g with a suspension headband
  • Volume roller on the ear cup, flip-to-mute mic
  • Lists PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 compatibility
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Mic isn’t detachable
  • Smaller 40mm drivers than the Atlas 200 or Trust headsets

Best officially licensed for PS5

4. Trust GXT 498W Forta Gaming Headset (Officially Licensed for PS5, White)

by GXTrust

Who it’s for: PS5 owners who want an officially licensed headset that matches the console.

Verdict: Trust’s Forta is officially licensed for PS5 and styled to match it. It pairs 50mm drivers with a detachable mic that has a pop filter, so you can take the mic off when you’re just watching something. Trust says the shell is made from up to 35% recycled plastic. It connects to the DualSense with a detachable 3.5mm cable.

What we like

  • Officially licensed for PS5
  • 50mm drivers
  • Detachable mic with a pop filter, plus a detachable cable
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

  • Mute and volume controls aren’t described on the listing
  • White shows dirt over time

Best HyperX on a budget

5. HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 Core Gaming Headset for PlayStation

by HyperX

Who it’s for: Players who want a well-known gaming brand and a simple swivel-to-mute mic.

Verdict: HyperX’s entry-level PlayStation headset keeps things simple: audio controls on the headset, a mic that mutes when you swivel it up, and closed-back ear cups with 40mm drivers that HyperX says are tuned for bass. It weighs 275g, per HyperX’s specs. On Amazon UK it was sold by Amazon EU rather than Amazon UK when we checked, which is still Amazon.

What we like

  • Swivel-to-mute mic
  • Audio controls on the headset itself
  • Closed-back ear cups for blocking out the room

Worth knowing

  • Sold by Amazon EU, so delivery may come from outside the UK
  • Amazon listing has very little detail – we used HyperX’s own specs

Cheapest that's actually decent

6. Turtle Beach Recon 50 Wired Gaming Headset

by Turtle Beach

Who it’s for: Anyone who just needs to hear the game and talk to friends, for as little as possible.

Verdict: The Recon 50 has been the default cheap console headset for years. It’s very basic, with an in-line remote for volume and mic mute and a mic you can pull off when you’re not chatting. But it’s from a proper gaming brand and works with PS5, PS4, Xbox and PC over 3.5mm. It’s a good ‘spare headset’ for a second controller or a younger player.

What we like

  • Removable mic
  • In-line volume and mic mute
  • Works with PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC and mobile
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked, with a 2-year warranty (per the listing)

Worth knowing

  • Very basic build and controls
  • Volume and mute are on the cable, not the ear cup

Cheapest officially licensed

7. Trust GXT 488 Forze Gaming Headset (Officially Licensed for PlayStation, Black)

by GXTrust

Who it’s for: Budget buyers who want a licensed PlayStation headset with big drivers and a tough braided cable.

Verdict: The Forze is licensed for PS4 but Trust says it also works with a PS5, and it plugs into the DualSense with a 1.2m braided cable. You get 50mm drivers, a mic that folds away when you’re not using it, and an in-line remote for volume. It’s an older model than the Forta (#4), and the heaviest pick here at 307g, but it’s one of the cheapest ways to get a licensed PlayStation headset. A blue version is also available.

What we like

  • Officially licensed for PlayStation
  • 50mm drivers
  • Fold-away mic and braided cable
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked, with a 2-year warranty (per the listing)

Worth knowing

  • Licensed for PS4; PS5 support is stated, but it’s an older design

Lightest licensed pick

8. PDP Airlite Wired Gaming Headset for PS5 (PlayStation Licensed, Ultraviolet Purple)

by PDP

Who it’s for: Younger players, or anyone who finds bigger headsets heavy, and wants an official PlayStation licence.

Verdict: The Airlite lives up to its name at 7oz (about 200g), one of the lightest headsets here. It’s an official PlayStation licensed product with 40mm drivers and a noise-cancelling mic that mutes when you flip it up. Stock looked low when we checked (11 left), and other colours exist on separate listings, so check the colour before you buy.

What we like

  • About 200g (7oz, per the listing)
  • Flip-to-mute, noise-cancelling mic
  • PlayStation Official Licensed Product
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Best cheap lightweight

9. NUBWO HG04L Wired Gaming Headset

by NUBWO

Who it’s for: Budget buyers who want a mute button and volume wheel on the headset rather than on the cable.

Verdict: A newer budget headset that covers the basics well. It has a cardioid mic that focuses on your voice, a mute button and volume wheel placed where your hand falls, memory-foam ear cushions and a 1.5m braided cable. The listing title says 250g, and it lists PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch. NUBWO is a smaller brand than Turtle Beach or Logitech, but this one was sold by Amazon when we checked.

What we like

  • Mute button and volume wheel on the headset
  • Cardioid mic to cut down on background noise (per the listing)
  • 1.5m braided cable
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Smaller brand with a 1-year warranty listed
  • The listing gives two different weights (250g in the title, 200g in the details)

Only wireless pick

10. Ozeino OW810 Wireless Gaming Headset (2.4GHz + Bluetooth)

by Ozeino

Who it’s for: Players who want to get rid of the cable and accept a lesser-known brand to stay under £50.

Verdict: Proper PS5 wireless headsets from the big brands usually cost more than £50, so this is the budget way to cut the cable. It connects to a PS5 with a 2.4GHz USB dongle, and the listing claims up to 40 hours’ battery at 60% volume and under 30ms latency. Read the small print, though: Bluetooth mode doesn’t work with a PS5 or PS4, it doesn’t work with Xbox at all, and the mic doesn’t work on Switch. It’s sold by a third-party seller, not Amazon.

What we like

  • 2.4GHz wireless with a USB dongle for PS5
  • Up to 40 hours’ battery at 60% volume (listing claim)
  • Also has Bluetooth for phones and laptops

Worth knowing

  • Sold by a third-party seller, not Amazon
  • Bluetooth mode doesn’t work on PS5; no Xbox support; no mic on Switch (per the listing)

Which one should you get?

  • Best all-round under £50: the Atlas 200, if it’s still under £50 when you look.
  • Best value: the Recon 70. It does everything most people need.
  • Light and comfy for long sessions: the Logitech G335 or the PDP Airlite.
  • Want it to match your PS5: the white Trust Forta.
  • Tightest budget: the Recon 50, or the Trust Forze if you want a licensed headset.
  • Hate cables: the Ozeino, but read its compatibility notes first.
  • Also streaming? A headset mic is fine for party chat, but a USB mic sounds much better on stream. Our streaming microphones under £50 flags which ones plug into a PS5.

What we left out and why

  • Corsair HS55, Sony INZONE H3 and SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1P: all good headsets, but when we checked they were only under £50 on a deal, and their normal prices were above it.
  • JBL Quantum 100P: “currently unavailable” on Amazon UK when we checked.
  • Turtle Beach Recon 500 and JBL Quantum 100M2: only available from third-party sellers, and we had enough Amazon-sold picks.
  • Cheap no-name headsets with confusing listings: several had generic sellers or listings that didn’t clearly name a PS5. We kept to listings that do.
  • Big-brand wireless (PULSE, Arctis, Stealth): over £50.

Prices change all the time. We don’t show prices on What2Buy – use the “Check price on Amazon” buttons for the current price.

FAQ

Do normal 3.5mm headsets work on a PS5?

Yes. Almost any wired headset with a 3.5mm plug works in the jack on the DualSense controller, giving you game audio and voice chat. Every wired pick here says it works with PS5 on its Amazon listing.

Do I need a PlayStation-licensed headset?

No. A licence means Sony has approved the design, which is nice to have, but unlicensed wired headsets work just as well through the controller jack. Licensed picks here are the Atlas 200 (#1), Trust Forta (#4), Trust Forze (#7) and PDP Airlite (#8).

Do cheap headsets support PS5 3D audio?

PS5 3D audio isn’t limited to Sony headsets. Plug in a headset, then go to Settings > Sound > 3D Audio (Headphones) to switch it on and set up a profile. It only works in games that support it. The Atlas 200 (#1) is the one pick here whose listing says it’s tuned for it.

Can I get a good wireless PS5 headset under £50?

It’s hard. The big-brand wireless headsets we looked at were over £50. The Ozeino (#10) is the only wireless pick here, and it’s from a smaller brand sold by a third-party seller. If you can stretch past £50, the big-brand wireless options open up.

Are these prices guaranteed to be under £50?

No. Everything here was under £50 at its normal price on Amazon UK when we checked, but prices change constantly, and the Atlas 200 (#1) sits right at the limit. Always check the current price on Amazon before you buy.
