Most “gifts for gamers under 20” lists are written for American shoppers in dollars. This one is in pounds, and every pick was under £20 on Amazon UK when we checked (6 October 2026), with a UK delivery address. Prices move, so use the buttons to check today’s price. 1. Paladone Pac-Man Ghost Light (PP4336PM)

by Paladone

Who it’s for: Anyone who games, on any platform. Pac-Man is the classic arcade game everyone recognises, so you don’t need to know their console.

Verdict: The safest cheap gift when you don’t know what they play. It’s an officially licensed light-up ghost from the original arcade game, about 8 inches tall, with a colour-phasing mode and a party mode that flashes to music (it picks up sound from the room, so it doesn’t need to be plugged into anything). It runs from a USB port, such as a laptop, console or your own USB plug adapter, via the micro-USB cable in the box. It’s decoration, not a gadget, but it looks great on a shelf.

What we like

  • Works for any gamer – no platform needed
  • Music-reactive mode with a sensitivity dial
  • Officially licensed merchandise
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Micro-USB cable, not USB-C, and no mains adapter in the box
  • Purely decorative

Best desk tidy

2. Alyvisun Headset Stand with Weighted Base

by Alyvisun

Who it’s for: Gamers whose headset lives in a heap on the desk or hangs off the monitor. It fits almost any over-ear headset, whatever platform they play on.

Verdict: A cheap way to make a desk look sorted. The iron base keeps it steady if it gets knocked, it’s 24 cm tall so it suits bigger gaming headsets, and the curved TPU pad stops the headband getting a dent. It goes together by hand in seconds, with no tools. It won’t hold earbuds, and it’s a generic brand, but at this price it’s a useful gift.

What we like

  • Weighted iron base, so it doesn’t topple
  • Curved pad protects the headband
  • Push-fit assembly, no tools
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Holds one headset, and not for in-ear buds
  • Generic brand

Best tiny controller

3. 8BitDo Zero 2 Bluetooth Keychain Controller (Pink Edition)

by 8BitDo

Who it’s for: Retro fans who play old-school games on a phone, PC, Mac or Raspberry Pi, or want a pocket controller for travel.

Verdict: A proper Bluetooth controller small enough to hang on a keyring. It works with Switch, Windows, macOS and Android (Raspberry Pi is also named on the listing) and has a keyboard mode. It’s best for 2D and retro games, as there are no thumbsticks. This listing is the pink edition. It was close to £20 when we checked, so look at the price before you buy.

What we like

  • Tiny and genuinely pocketable
  • Works across Switch, Windows, macOS and Android
  • Rechargeable battery built in
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Very small for adult hands, and no thumbsticks
  • Charges over micro-USB
  • Price was close to £20 when we checked

Best for lots of controllers

4. Venom Universal Headset & Controller Stand (4-tier)

by Venom

Who it’s for: Families or housemates with several controllers lying around, on any mix of PlayStation, Xbox and Switch.

Verdict: If the problem is controllers everywhere, this is the fix. It has four adjustable tiers that hold up to eight controllers, or two headsets and four controllers. The frame is metal with a widened base and non-slip pads, and the listing says it’s tool-free and takes under a minute to put together. It works with PlayStation, Xbox and Switch pads. It’s a newer listing, first available in September 2025.

What we like

  • Holds up to eight controllers
  • Adjustable hangers for different pads and headsets
  • Metal frame with non-slip pads
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Takes up more desk space than a single headset stand
  • Newer listing with less of a track record

Best for small rooms

5. MoKo Wall-Mounted Controller and Headset Holder

by MoKo

Who it’s for: Gamers in a small bedroom or flat with no surface space to spare.

Verdict: Gets the kit off the desk completely. This aluminium wall holder takes two controllers and a headset, and you can fix it with screws (a right-angle screwdriver is included) or the adhesive tape, which suits renters who can’t drill. The listing names Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Switch 2, Steam and PC controllers. It was sold by a third-party seller rather than Amazon when we checked.

What we like

  • Frees up desk space entirely
  • Screw or adhesive fixing, screwdriver included
  • Aluminium, not flimsy plastic

Worth knowing

  • Sold by a third-party seller (KnoWhite) when we checked
  • Holds two controllers only

Best for PC players

6. Razer DeathAdder Essential (2021) Wired Gaming Mouse

by Razer

Who it’s for: PC players still using an office mouse, or a younger gamer getting their first gaming setup.

Verdict: A big-name gaming mouse that was under £20 on offer when we checked. The DeathAdder is one of Razer’s longest-running mouse shapes, designed for comfort on long sessions, and this version has a 6,400 DPI optical sensor and five programmable buttons that Razer says are tested for up to 10 million clicks. It’s wired and the sensor is basic by today’s standards, but as a first gaming mouse it’s hard to argue with.

What we like

  • Comfortable ergonomic shape
  • Five programmable buttons
  • Wired, so no charging
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Wired only
  • Basic sensor compared with pricier mice

Best for PlayStation fans

7. Paladone PlayStation Icons Light

by Paladone

Who it’s for: Anyone with a PlayStation who’d like the famous controller symbols glowing on their shelf.

Verdict: The PlayStation fan’s version of the Pac-Man light. It’s an officially licensed light of the four PlayStation button symbols, about 30 cm wide, with three modes: standard, colour phasing and music-reactive. It runs from the USB cable in the box or three AAA batteries (not included), so it can go anywhere. If they’re an Xbox fan, Paladone makes an Xbox Icons Light too, with two modes.

What we like

  • Officially licensed
  • USB or battery power
  • Three modes, including music-reactive
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

  • AAA batteries not included
  • Decorative only

Best for Mario fans

8. Paladone Super Mario Icons Light

by Paladone

Who it’s for: Mario fans, from kids to grown-ups who grew up with the games.

Verdict: The Nintendo option, and the cheapest of the three lights when we checked. It shows three Mario power-ups (the Super Mushroom, Super Star and Fire Flower), with a music-reactive mode and a mode that lights each icon in turn. Like the PlayStation light, it runs on USB or three AAA batteries. Pick between the lights by which games they love.

What we like

  • Officially licensed Nintendo merchandise
  • USB or battery power
  • Music-reactive and phasing modes
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Best for retro Nintendo fans

9. Paladone Game Boy Heat-Change Mug (PP3374NN)

by Paladone

Who it’s for: Anyone who had a Game Boy, and anyone who’d like one on their desk at work.

Verdict: The cheapest pick here and a fun one. Pour in a hot drink and the Game Boy’s screen “loads up”. It’s officially licensed by Nintendo, holds about 290 ml and is shaped after the original handheld. The listing’s dishwasher information isn’t consistent, so we’d hand wash it to keep the heat-change effect working.

What we like

  • The cheapest gift on this page when we checked
  • Officially licensed Nintendo product
  • Works as an everyday mug
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Worth knowing

  • Hand wash to be safe – the listing’s dishwasher info conflicts
  • 290 ml is on the small side for a big tea drinker

Which one should you get?

  • You don’t know what they play: the Pac-Man light, or a headset stand if they wear a headset.
  • Their desk or room is a mess of controllers: the Venom stand for lots of pads, the MoKo wall holder if there’s no surface space.
  • They play retro games on a phone or PC: the 8BitDo Zero 2.
  • They play on PC with an office mouse: the Razer DeathAdder Essential.
  • PlayStation fan: the PlayStation Icons Light. Xbox fan: Paladone’s Xbox Icons Light is the same idea.
  • Nintendo fan: the Mario light, or the Game Boy mug for a retro fan.
  • They’ve got a Switch 2: see our Switch 2 accessories under £20.
  • Bigger budget: more gamer gift guides are on the way. If they stream, a mic arm under £50 is a good next step. For a countdown gift, see our advent calendars for men.

What we left out and why

  • Grupo Erik “One More Life” heat-change mug: a good platform-neutral joke mug, but Amazon UK showed only one left when we checked.
  • Paladone Game Boy Light: only available from a third-party seller, with two left, so the price could easily jump over £20.
  • 8BitDo Micro: a great tiny controller, but it was over £20 on Amazon UK when we checked.
  • Gaming socks and the Logitech G203 mouse: no price showing on the listings we checked, so we couldn’t confirm they were under £20.
  • PS5 thumb grips and Switch 2 accessories: they’re platform-specific, so they’re in our PS5 and Switch 2 guides instead.
  • Gift cards: the face value is the price, and they only work on one platform’s store.

Prices change all the time. We don’t show prices on What2Buy – use the “Check price on Amazon” buttons for the current price.

FAQ

What's a good gift for a gamer under £20?

If you don’t know their console, the Pac-Man light (#1) or a headset stand (#2). For PC players, the Razer DeathAdder Essential (#6). For PlayStation fans, the PlayStation Icons Light (#7). For Nintendo fans, the Mario light (#8) or Game Boy mug (#9).

What can I get a gamer if I don't know what console they have?

Go for something platform-neutral: the Pac-Man light, a headset stand, the Venom controller stand or the MoKo wall holder. All of them work whatever they play on.

Are gaming LED lights worth it?

As decoration, yes – they’re a fun shelf piece and they’re officially licensed. They’re not bright enough to light a room, and they don’t do anything for their gaming, so pick one by the games they love.

Are all of these really under £20?

They were all under £20 on Amazon UK when we checked on 6 October 2026, with a UK delivery address. Prices change, sometimes daily, the 8BitDo Zero 2 was close to the limit, and the Pac-Man, PlayStation and Mario lights and the Razer mouse were only under £20 on offer, so check the price before you buy.
