Laptop webcams are still mostly rubbish, and if you spend half the day on Teams or Zoom, a proper webcam is one of the best-value home-office upgrades. For work calls, what matters is a bit different from streaming: good auto-lighting, a field of view you can adjust (so your washing pile stays out of shot), decent built-in mics and a privacy cover. (Here’s how we choose products.)

  • Best overall: Logitech Brio 4K (#1)
  • Best for framing your shot: Anker PowerConf C200 (#2)
  • Best classic: Logitech C920 HD Pro (#3)

Streaming rather than meetings? Our webcams for streaming under £50 is the guide for you.

Quick tips for looking better on calls

  • Face a window, not away from it. Backlighting is the number one cause of looking like a silhouette.
  • Camera at eye level. Most webcams clip to the top of your monitor; if you use a laptop, raise it.
  • Light the desk too. A monitor light bar helps; see our best monitor light bars.

Which one should you get?

  • On calls all day: Logitech Brio 4K (#1).
  • Small room or busy background: Anker PowerConf C200 (#2).
  • Just want it to work: Logitech C920 (#3), or Brio 100 (#5) on a budget.
  • 4K for less: UGREEN 4K (#4).
  • Buying for a home worker? See our gifts for people who work from home.

What we left out and why

  • AnkerWork C310: only 1 left from a third-party seller.
  • Logitech C920S: only 4 left from a third-party seller, and the listing describes it as a Wi-Fi webcam, which it isn’t.
  • Logitech Brio 4K for Business: sold by a third party; the standard Brio 4K (#1) is sold by Amazon.
  • Streaming webcams: they’re in our streaming webcams under £50 guide.

FAQ

Do I need a 4K webcam for work calls?

Not really. Teams and Zoom usually send much lower resolution. Good lighting and autofocus matter more. 4K helps if you crop or zoom in, as the Brio 4K (#1) can.

What's field of view and why does it matter?

It’s how wide the camera sees. A narrower view (65°) keeps the background out of shot; a wider one (90°+) fits two people or a whiteboard. The Brio 4K and PowerConf C200 let you choose.

Do these work with Teams, Zoom and Google Meet?

They’re all plug-and-play USB webcams. The Brio 100 listing names Teams, Zoom and Google Meet specifically.
