A monitor light bar sits on top of your screen and lights the desk in front of you without bouncing off the display. It frees up desk space compared with a lamp, and it’s a lovely upgrade for late-night gaming or winter afternoons at the desk. The two things to check are monitor thickness and curve (not every clamp fits) and whether it blocks your webcam. (Here’s how we choose products.)

  • Best overall: BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 (#1)
  • Best for most desks: BenQ ScreenBar Pro (#2)
  • Best value for curved screens: Quntis 41cm Curved (#3)

Which one should you get?

  • Best experience: BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 (#1).
  • Bright and simple: BenQ ScreenBar Pro (#2).
  • Curved or ultrawide on a budget: Quntis 41cm (#3) or 51cm (#5). Sorting the arm too? See our monitor arms for ultrawides.

  • Lighting your face for streams? That’s a different job: see our streaming lights under £50.

What we left out and why

  • Quntis 41cm wireless (non-curved): its listing describes it as curved in one place, which doesn’t match the product, so we left it out.
  • No-name light bars: we stuck to brands with clear fit specs.

FAQ

Do monitor light bars cause screen glare?

They’re designed not to. The bars here use an asymmetric design that aims light down at the desk and away from the screen.

Will a light bar fit a curved monitor?

Check the listing. The ScreenBar Halo 2 (#1), ScreenBar Pro (#2) and Quntis curved bars (#3, #5) list curved support; the original ScreenBar (#4) is for flat monitors 1–3cm thick.

Can I use a light bar with a webcam on top of my monitor?

The ScreenBar Pro and Quntis 41cm Curved both say their clips are webcam-friendly. Otherwise, mount the webcam on a small tripod.
