Joy-Con 2 are clever, but for long sessions in TV mode (or a second player for Mario Kart World) most people want a proper pad. The good news: there are now plenty of officially licensed Switch 2 controllers, and several have Hall-effect or TMR sticks that are designed to resist drift. I’ve only included pads that list Switch 2 support and Nintendo licensing. (Here’s how we choose products.)

  • Best overall: Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (#1)
  • Best licensed wireless alternative: PowerA Advantage Wireless (#2)
  • Best battery: Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless (#3)

  • Official Nintendo accessory
  • Charges your Joy-Con 2 via the included USB cable
  • Adds GL/GR buttons (listing)
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked

Which one should you get?

  • Want every feature: the official Pro Controller (#1).
  • Want a cheaper second pad: PowerA Advantage Wireless (#2) or Turtle Beach Rematch (#3).
  • Buying for a kid: Afterglow Wave (#4) for the lights, or a wired pad (#6) for the dock.
  • Already have Joy-Con 2: try the Charging Grip (#5) first.
  • Need the small stuff too? Our Switch 2 accessories under £20 covers screen protectors, cases and grips.

What we left out and why

  • 8BitDo Ultimate 2: a popular pad, but it’s not officially licensed, needs a firmware update for Switch 2, and was sold by a third party when we checked.
  • HORI Wireless HORIPAD Turbo (Pokémon edition): the listing contradicts itself on which console it’s for, so we left it out until it’s fixed.
  • Unbranded “Switch 2 Pro” lookalikes: we only list officially licensed pads.

FAQ

Do original Switch Pro Controllers work on Switch 2?

This guide only covers pads that list Switch 2 support. Every pick here says it’s for Switch 2, and the third-party ones say they’re officially licensed by Nintendo.

Which Switch 2 controller is best for stick drift?

The PowerA Advantage pads (#2, #7) list Hall-effect sticks, and the Turtle Beach pads (#3, #4) list TMR sticks. Both are magnetic designs meant to resist drift.

Do these controllers support amiibo?

Of the picks here, only the official Pro Controller (#1) lists built-in amiibo support.

Wired or wireless?

Wireless is better for most homes. Wired pads (#6, #7) make sense for docked play if you hate charging things.
